Insight: : A retrospective about first principles
Who do they think they are
to even consider killing another person in the name of their religion?
For civilized
people, weapons are only a deterrence. For others, weapons are to be used.
Period. Weapons are only to impose one's will over another.
So, how do we
start a dialogue? Where do we start? About what can we agree?
In the earlier two
segments, there were repeated references to our first principles page. It is a
statement about perfection and paths toward perfection.¹
Religion and
science are about understanding perfection in very different ways.
The best writers
and thinkers de facto use the standards of perfection to judge and shape their
thinking. They are consider thoughtful people.
Thoughtful people
have a clarity of vision and often can articulate it better than others. In
this world community, these thoughtful people should be lifted up and studied,
especially by those of us with access to the worldwide web.
There are several
people whose writings Hattie and I try not to miss. We are daily readers of the
Wall Street Journal and they have two editorial writers who think deeply
about what is happneing in our world!
We recommend
Bret
Stephens² and
Dan Henninger³ to
you. They sleep on the world's problems and arise for a new day to write about
their insights.
We all need to be a
bit more like Bret and Dan. Don't be afraid to take on some of the world's
problems within your business. Think about it. Go to sleep thinking about it. I
believe that you, too, will arise with new insights. We all need to open and
orient ourselves to true universals, absorbing them such that when we awake we
are more inclined to create order that imparts continuity, deeper symmetries
within relations, and occasional harmonies within the dynamics of our next
day.¹
Over and over again
throughout so many episodes of the show, you have heard, "Hire someone to
lighten the load" and "Go global."
Why not? That extra
set of hands can help create more continuity within your business. That person
can extend the network of relations. And together, you can dynamically extend
your business within the gobal community.
It doesn't have to
be a dream. You can make it a reality.
More so than any
other time in human history, we are all challenged to take up the cause.
Sleep on
it.
We can let reality
happen to us or we can create the new realities that bring us closer to, or
within, the many-sided perfections that are possible within and throughout all
of our life.
Much of prayer is
about preparing for sleep; so if you are a prayerful person, pray for insight
to communicate with those Muslim people who can work with us towards
peace. |
